Acts 2:1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all [a]with one accord in one place. Thank the Lord for the fact that Jesus death bought to us a new life, a life that was full of deliverances from evil deeds, miracle of seeing the dead come to life, seeing 1,000 of people feed with five loaves and two fish. Seeing the stormy winds cease. Walking on water, seeing people blind, able to see. Seeing Governmental power have to give way to Jesus’s love. Having the ability to rise from the grave as He had completed His mission to give new life to His followers who were hiding, not yet ministering to people but powerless. So here are people gathered together at the request of Jesus to celebrate the Passover from Bondage to liberty to a new dimension for remembering God is in control, regardless of how bad the bondages may be. It was 5,000 years ago God delivered the Hebrew people the Jews out of bondage. Today is the last day of the week and; a new day dawning to awaken us to work for the Kingdom of God as Ambassadors for the Kingdom of God. The people all needed to be sanctified, or bought back to reality for their imaginations where shot. Here He is risen from the dead and appears 40 days alive. He had a body yet the body was transfigured, pure and whole, but a spirit that is alive to quicken us to become alive for Christ at all times. Lord may we be shocked to death by what You’re doing in our world today? Are we not living in a world that is bound by sins that are destroying civilizations and even right here in our Valley, look at the results of sins lust for addictions of doing it my way, not Gods way. We are seeing people worship idols, like movie stars, alcohol, drugs, sex, animals everything but God who created us all for goodwill and peace! Here the Disciples all had fled and were incapacitated soon to be set free to preach with the anointing of the Spirit of God, that was about to be revealed to them during this solemn feast where people where gathered in Jerusalem from all parts of the country and even proselytes from other countries, which made this a public event, or happening. It is so wonderful to know that God is never asleep for He is in control at all times. Here he had shown Himself after His Resurrection 40 days and is here giving life to the Church that is still affecting millions of people today. Notice they were all with one accord, knowing something great was about to happen. It was the Temple at Jerusalem where they celebrated and now here in the upper room maybe even where Jesus celebrated His last supper with the Disciples just before His death, He ate and had communion with the Disciples. Now they were going to experience a communion with the fire of the Holy Spirit, never seen before, as the grace of God is given to enable us for service.. The old Testament said in Isaiah 2:3 New King James Version (NKJV) 3 Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. It was Jerusalem the capital of the governmental rule where all meet in a room to just seek the Lords favor, they loved the Lord and are here to show that love, sitting aside all doubts and instead looking forward to another miracle. God is about to usher in Grace, in giving the gift of the Holy Spirit to move upon the waters of turbulence, to bring order with one accord, as people came to honor the Lord that allowed them to be a blessing, regardless of the storms of life we find ourselves in. We are living in a time when we need to be full of the Spirit of God, to know right from wrong, for we are seeing right wrong and wrong right. This is causing a lot of dissention and people are confused. The Holy Spirit is needed to give us the assurance all is going to be ok for God is at the controls and knows how to reign us in. Let’s read from Acts 2
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them [b]divided tongues, as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. Rushing might wind is seen and felt as well as heard and it filled the whole house. What a picture of a grand entry of the spirit of God’s love, mercy and grace to show the Church His power. Notice the manifestation of God spirit is Divided tongues as of fire setting upon each one of them. Remember in the Old Testament a cloud was over Gods giving of the Law on Mount Sinai, a Cloud hovered over them in the wilderness by day for forty years and a fire by night. A cloud covered the temple and a cloud received the Lord into heaven and here it is not a cloud, but a might wind stirring a fire that gets more out of control, so people can see the light of the truth of what God is allowing to happen. Remember He is in control? Notice the word Suddenly not gradually as some winds come up. It was as a thunder clap to all alive and present. God’s way is in the whirlwind and the storms of life according to Nahum 1:3 He spoke to Job out of the whirlwind. God has a powerful influence in our world today as the Holy Spirit is being poured out on may. The Assemblies of God is part of the fastest growing movement in the history of Christianity. The Pentecostal have 35,000 people come to the Lord daily. Out of 2 Billion Christians in our world ¼ are Pentecostals. This phoneme of sound filled the room where they were sitting. It was a awesome beginning for the Church. They witness cloven tongues, like as of fire! What are cloven tongues? Answer: When people hear of “cloven tongues,” they almost immediately think of Acts 2:3. As the Holy Spirit filled the 120 disciples in the upper room on the Day of Pentecost, “there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them” (KJV). Other translations refer to “divided tongues as of fire” (ESV) or “tongues as of fire distributing themselves” (NASB).
The word cloven means “divided” or “separated.” The picture is of something like a large fire appearing in the room then dividing into “tongues” that rested momentarily upon each person in the room. Luke is careful to say that this was not actual fire, only “what seemed to be . . . fire” ( The word cloven means “divided” or “separated.” The picture is of something like a large fire appearing in the room then dividing into “tongues” that rested momentarily upon each person in the room. Luke is careful to say that this was not actual fire, only “what seemed to be . . . fire” (Acts 2:3). The dividing of the “fire” into small, tongue-shaped flames signifies several things: John the Baptist’s prophecy of Jesus’ baptizing people “with the Holy Spirit and fire” was possibly being fulfilled (see Matthew 3:11), 12 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” there is one Spirit who gives many gifts (see 1 Corinthians 12:11), But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. So there was a great variety of languages that the disciples were being enabled to speak (see Acts 2:6–11), and the disciples were being granted “fiery” eloquence to preach the gospel to all nations (see Acts 4:13).
Before His ascension, Jesus had told His disciples not to leave Jerusalem but to stay there and “wait for the gift my Father promised. . . . In a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit” ( Before His ascension, Jesus had told His disciples not to leave Jerusalem but to stay there and “wait for the gift my Father promised. . . . In a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 1:4–5). The gift of God came with an audible sign—the sound like a “rushing mighty wind” (Acts 2:2, KJV)—and with a visible sign—the “cloven tongues like as of fire” (verse 3, KJV). The Lord was true to His word, and the followers of Christ were changed forever. The presence of God Himself had come to indwell us, and the world was turned upside down (Acts 17:6). The flame of a candle is sort of like a tongue. It is sharp and can burn or bring healing depending on who is in control, us or God. John said at he Baptism of Jesus He shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit with fire. Now it is happening just as the law was given to Moses at Mount Sinai. This was a fiery law, the Holy Spirit is a fiery experience that takes over the tongue in a way that bless the one receiving and those who hear the message. Ezekiel’s mission was confirmed by a vision of burning coal of fire on his lips. Acts 1:13. Isaiah’s by a coal of fire touching his lips Acts 6:7. The Spirit like fire, melts the heart, separates and burns up the dross, and kindles pious and devout affections in the soul. Just like the fire upon the altar, the spiritual sacrifices are offered up. This is the fire which Christ offered up for all to be a part of. To be Continued. |
